T
TILT
Up and down (vertical) movement of a lantern, camera or moving light.
TIME
The facility on memory lighting boards for playing back timed fades at the touch of a button.
TOP HAT
Also known as HIGH HAT or SNOOT. Cylinder of metal inserted into color runners on the front of a parcan or other lantern to limit spill light.
TORCHIERE
An indirect floor lamp sending all or nearly all of its light upward.
TRANSFORMATION
An instant scene change, often effected by exploiting the varying transparency of gauze under different lighting conditions.
TRANSFORMER
- Transformers are electrical devices with no moving parts, which change distribution voltages to higher or lower levels. When used with incandescent or halogen lamps, they typically step 120-V distribution downward to 12V, although 5.5V and 24-V models are also offered.
- A component that will convert from one AC voltage to another. The main use of a transfromer in lighting is converting the mains voltage of 220-240 volts down to the 5-12v required by most electronic equipment or 12-24 volts used by many lamps.
TRANSLUCENT
Transmitting light diffusely or imperfectly.
TRIAC
- (Triode Alternating Current switch) Electronic Semiconductor device which is an integral part of modern dimmers. When a current is applied to a triac, it starts conducting, and continues until the current passing through it falls to zero. Whereas a thyristor can only conduct half of the AC wave, a triac (as long as it's triggered at the appropriate point) will conduct both halves of the wave.
- A Triac is an electronic switch. It is the main switching component that handles the power control of all of Ryger's Powered controllers. The triac will allow small control voltages and currents to switch very large voltages and currents and so is ideally suited to control power from microprocessors and more delicate electronics.
