I
IR FILTER
a device for changing, by transmission or reflection, the magnitude or
spectral composition of the flux of IR incident upon it.
I.A.T.S.E. (INTERNATIONAL ALLIANCE OF THEATRICAL AND STAGE EMPLOYEES)
A union representing professional craftspeople in the entertainment
industry. This union includes stage electricians, carpenters, and
projectionists. A venue is a union house if its local crew belongs to IATSE.
ICON (TM)
A moving yoke type automated fixture distributed by Lighting and Sound
Design (LSD).
INCANDESCENT LAMP
A lamp which creates light by heating up a thin filament, usually tungsten
wire. Most standard household light bulbs as will as tungsten halogen lamps
are incandescent. The color temperature of most incandescent lamps ranges
from 1800 Kelvin to about 3800 Kelvin.
INTELLABEAM (TM)
A moving mirror type automated fixture introduced by High End Systems/Lightwave
Research in the late 1980's.
IRIS
A device commonly used in an ERS or followspot to reduce the apparent
diameter of the beam of light. Many automated fixtures also employ a motor
controlled iris which can be used to remotely adjust the beam diameter.
IEC / I.E.C.
International Electrotechnical Commission. The UK mains inlet connector /
"kettle lead" is known as an IEC LEAD.
IMPEDANCE
A term for the electrical resistance found in a/c circuits. Affects the
ability of a cable to transmit low level (e.g. sound) signals over a long
distance. Measured in Ohms. Speakers are rated according to power handling
capabilities (Watts, W) and impedance (Ohms).
INCANDESCENT
Light source consisting of a metal filament (Tungsten) which glows white hot
when current is passed through.
INDEPENDENT
1) An electrical power supply that is totally separate from the stage
lighting control. Used for testing lanterns prior to connection to the
lighting system and also for powering non-lighting equipment on stage and
working lights.
2) A channel within the stage lighting control which has been temporarily
switched to become independent from the rest of the channels which remain
under the control of the operator.
