DIMMER PACKS
Dimmer packs are a variable switch that uses 0-10V signals to control
lighting. A dimmer pack will dim lighting proportionally to the input
signal.
DISCHARGE LAMP
A lamp that insted of having a filament has two electrodes in a near vacuum,
when the power is applied a high voltage is generated that makes an arc
across the two electrodes emmitting a very intense light.
DICHROIC
A type of glass color filter that will give very strong colors without
melting under the heat found in most intelligent lighting.
DMX
A system of passing information from a lighting controller to dimmer packs,
switch packs or intelligent lighting. Each Channel of a DMX system will take
the control for 1 channel of a dimmer or switch pack. When used with
intelligent lighting each DMX channel controls an aspect of the lighting
head e.g., Pan position or color With the Present standard DMX[512] will
support up to 512 channels.
DICHROIC COLOR FILTER
Treated glass color filter that produces rich, vibrant colors.
DIMMER
Device used to control the intensity of a lighting fixture.
DIMMER PER CIRCUIT
Each circuit has its own individual dimmer.
DJ MIXER
Used to combine, blend, cross fade and adjust sound levels from devices such
as CD players, tape decks and/or MP3 players.
DEDICATED CFL
A dedicated compact fluorescent lamp is one in which the ballast is
hard-wired to lamp holders within a luminair. Since the lamps fit into
specially keyed sockets, this type of system ensures that compact
fluorescent lamps will be used in the luminair.
DIFFUSER
A device to redirect or scatter the light from a source, primarily by the
process of diffuse transmission.
