BUMP
A flash or sudden jump in light level (a snap cue)
BUMP BUTTON
- A momentary switch or button on a lighting control console which brings a channel to a level of full when pressed. Bump buttons allow rapid manual control over lighting control channels. On some consoles bump buttons can be put into solo mode where all channels except those controlled by the bump button go out.
- A momentary button or switch on a console allows for manual flashing of lighting fixtures.
BUMP CUE
- A lighting cue which happens instantly (Time=0). Bump cues are traditionally used to emphasize similar abrupt changes in music, choreography, or to mark the end of a scene. A bump cue where all lights go out is called a blackout.
- A lighting cue that instantly bumps the lighting up to a brighter level. Usually at the end of a musical number to draw the applause.
BURNT OUT
A colored gel that has lost its color or melted through due to excessive heat in front of a lantern. Dark blues and greens etc. are most susceptible, and may need replacing during a long run.
BUSBAR
Metal bar carrying incoming electrical supply into which portable dimmer racks or other large power requirements can be wired directly. An enclosure containing busbars is a Busbar Chamber.
